When you live at the bottom of the world and work takes you to the other side it would be damn madness to simply bang out a few days on the job and get straight back on the plane, madness! Recently I’ve been lucky enough to have this opportunity come around roughly once a year, with the icing on the cake meaning I can see one of my all time favourite people. Katey aka KP has lived over in London for 10 years (which feels like foooorever) so it’s always incredibly exciting to jump on a plane and explore somewhere we haven’t been. Milan came up simply because of it’s fashionable reputation but also because it’s an easy 1 1/2hrs flight from London City airport. No time to waste, must drink wine!

Despite hearing that Milan was just an industrial city both myself and KP had a shared curiosity so even though we were both battling awful head colds we were determined to explore the inner city via it’s delicious food, fashion, coffee and cocktails armed with the best Day & Night pills we could find.

Quickly shoving an icecream in my face before I did some serious damage.

The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele is exquisite to window shopping, I repeat ‘Window Shop’ this gelato was probably the only thing I could actually afford. However just outside the Galleria there is a huge stretch of high street fashion that was far friendlier on my pocket thank god, I must add that their high street stores are presented so incredibly you could be fooled into thinking you were shopping luxury.

We booked a place in Brera which is perfectly placed, it’s 10-25 minutes walk from everywhere you’ll want to go.  I found an awesome 2 bedroom apartment at $300 nzd a night. I think a common misconception is that all of Europe is crazy expensive but the apartment was everything you needed, spacious, stylish, modern, full of light and perfectly placed. (let me know if you would like the the link)

Roaming the streets of Milan was completely charming, the ever stylish locals flash by on scooters and cute espresso stalls are stationed every second corner, which was incredibly helpful when trying to ignore a head cold.

I was lucky enough to have the talented Robin Wilson from @anywhereiroamphotography collaborate with me on my travels!

This next spot,Tibi Bistrot Provençal, was literally right outside our front door, it opened at 7pm to two very eager Kiwis breathing heavily on it’s windows. Once opened it quickly became quite the hot spot with good looking Italians as far as the eye could see. To be honest I was still trying desperately to pretend I wasn’t sick and it was my last night in Milan so it was just one glorious Vino for me and some giggles with Robin before the jetlag kicked in and I was off to bed.

My takeaways from the trip, what an incredibly beautiful, easy place to visit where nothing was a problem.

Our early check in, no problem.

Booking a taxi or Uber, effortless.

Attempting the language, accepted with grace.

and my overweight luggage (from shopping to much) not even mentioned!

Thank you Milano

Amber xx
