Telling Porkies : Part 1

I once heard that the pigs anatomy is so close to that of a human that sometimes medical students use the carcass to practice surgeries.

It was after I learnt this, my intake of pork reduced dramatically as I kinda felt like I was eating my cousin – my tasty bacon flavoured cousin…  I feel guilty on a regular basis for eating animals and some weeks I am a vegetarian until I go out for dinner or I’m hungover!
It’s this guilt though that ensures what meat I am eating has had the chance to be an animal, which in turn eases the strain on my conscious.
Sunday on TV1 recently exposed the shocking conditions that our little piggy friends were subjected to before they became our meal and it was a harsh reminder that we as consumers need to keep ourselves informed and make the right choices when buying our meat.

Snaps to Freedom Farms www.freedomfarms.co.nz – these guys are leaders as far as free range pork goes and their website is pretty cool too.

safe.org.nz is telling us to boycott pork but I say boycott those that are doing it wrong – go free range and show the pork industry who’s boss – yeah!!!
I’ll be posting a list of awesome restaurants and cafes that use free range pork aswell so watch this space
Man I feel empowered.
