The 5 Top Movies For The Holiday Season

The holidays are all about socialising! And socialising includes drinking, eating, and mass television watching.  To save you the stress of deciding what to watch this holiday season I have put together a list of the best scenario appropriate movies to get you through! (You can thank me later)

1. The All-Rounder

Love-Actually-3

‘Love Actually’ has got to be the best Christmas-celebrity-mash-up-cameo-feel good-movie of all time. Ever. It’s romantic, funny, musical and very PG so it’s super child appropriate for post-lunch digestion at large family gatherings. In my opinion it far surpasses it’s successors ‘Valentines Day’ and ‘New Years Eve’ because A) it’s about Christmas the best holiday of the year, and B) you just can’t beat tiny Sam with his English accent and his agony of being in love.

2. The Babysitter

Taking care of someone’s child at some point during the holidays is usually an unavoidable part of my Christmas. So finding a movie that both you and the younglings will enjoy is a sure-fire way to a hassle-free baby-sitting experience.  So many hyphens! I can’t be stopped. My picks would undoubtedly be Despicable Me and Despicable Me 2. IT’S SO FLUFFY I’M GONNA DIE.

3. The Date-Night

As with summer, comes summer love! And after a day spent taking long walks on the beach, and gazing into each other’s eyes, comes date night! Saucy! This season’s must-see movie would be non-other than Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa. This is sure to have some laugh-out-loud moments – perfect for taking the edge off a nerve-wracking first date.

4. The Night Before Christmas

I don’t think Bad Santa will ever stop being played by TV3 on Christmas Eve. I have literally watched it every single year since it came out in 2003, and I will continue to watch it until it gets taken off the air. Low and behold, it is scheduled on TV3 this Christmas Eve! That’s 10 years of Bad Santa. Crazy madness. I swear this movie will never get old. ‘Not Bad Santa again??’ said no one ever.

5. The Morning After

Christmas + relatives = drinking. And after a long day and night of festivities, Boxing Day can be a little rough. What better way to cheer yourself up than with the best movie of all time – Mean Girls. I don’t care what the movie list, this bad boy will always make an appearance. ‘But what’s that got to do with Christmas?’ I hear you say… Need I remind you of the best ever rendition of Jingle Bell Rock?? Enough said.
