Life doesn’t imitate art.
Life is not – thankfully – a romantic comedy. Life is also not a half hour sitcom/comedy series but I am beginning to wish that it was. Because it seems to me that these primetime shows, most notably New Girl and The Mindy Project, seem to know exactly how to execute the perfect kiss.
Last week’s episode of The Mindy Project saw the best TV kiss since Nick and Jess’s last year and we all remember how great that was:
It got us thinking, what is it, why is it, that these prime time kisses are so ridiculously perfect that they trump everything anyone has ever done, or could do, in real life? Obviously these are fictional encounters and have ironically been rehearsed to death to in order to look spontaneous but let us brush that aside for a moment and focus on the important things.
1. The Situation
It’s always the same. Boy meets girl, they become friends and systematically ignore their sexual chemistry until the guy mans up and does something about it.
2. The Build Up
Other wise known as the game changer. Something always happens, usually it’s a fight, sometimes its a plane almost falling out of the sky, to make them(him) realize that they(he) are being FOOLS.
3. The Execution
(It’s even raining in this one)
It’s always unexpected and spontaneous. The guy always just goes for it, there is no hesitation, no second thoughts and most importantly, NO SPEECH. I’m not kidding when I say if you want to turn a girl off, ask if you can kiss her.
If you want something, just go for it. Have some balls, it’s what sorts the men from the boys.
Prime time kisses, ruining reality since ages ago.
