A Good Idea Goes Bad
I have just this second, finished reading the much-anticipated sequel to Lauren Weisberger ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ – ‘Revenge Wears Prada.’ I was ecstatic when I found out that this was happening. I have read the first book about five times now and could probably recite you the whole film. In other words, I am a bit of a fan.
So you can imagine my distress when I realized that Revenge Wears Prada might be one of the most disappointing reads of my entire life.
Seriously, it’s awful.
I think I may have realised it halfway through too but didn’t want to believe it… I thought, maybe I just built it up so much that it could have never lived up to my high expectations? Or maybe it’s because I am reading it while simultaneously reading Angelina Jolie’s ‘Notes On My Travels’ (a journal on her visits with refugees in Africa, Cambodia, Pakistan and Ecuador) because that book makes everything seem irrelevant.
But then I did a little research and as it turns out, it wasn’t just me who thought it was rubbish:
‘Revenge’ is not sweet for ‘Prada’ sequel – USA Today
“Full disclosure: In a recent conversation with the author, I told her I liked ‘Revenge Wears Prada.’ I lied politely only because the truth would have been as bad as the book.” – NY Daily News
The Devil Gets Awkward – The Daily Beast
“It’s been ten years since Lauren Weisberger famously penned a fictional story based on her time as Anna Wintour’s assistant. For some reason she decided to write a sequel. Spoiler alert: It sucks.” – The Vine
The reviews are beyond bad you guys.
I can only hope that if and when they decide to make it into a movie that the screenwriters can whip it into shape. This may actually be the first book to be improved by its movie rendition.
God knows it could do with some Meryl.
