Marc and Miley, Miley and Marc
“GASP! Did you see Miley is the new face of Marc Jacobs?” Amber text me this morning. “HELL YEA!” I replied, “Because she’s the bomb!” (note: I use the term “the bomb” the same way people use lol these days).
Amber wasn’t as convinced.
“I still have mixed emotions.” she replied, “Sometimes I love her, sometimes she makes me afraid.”
I felt this was a hilarious sentiment and one that sums up how the world toward Miley right now. Judging from the internets reaction to the news half the world loves her while the other half is a little afraid of her (hates her).
“Yuck. How would that messed up, over sexualized, unattractive girl make me go out and buy ANYTHING from Marc Jacobs???? What a horrible choice.” Offered one particularly emotive troll commenter.
while another, aptly named Mom50 offered,
“I think she is beautiful. She is smart and a good person. Good for her and the confidence she has.”
Most reactions read along the same lines as these, some pausing to battle between themselves as to whether Miley has good facial structure or not:
“Hideous? WHAT A JOKE HATEFUL COMMENT! OBVIOUSLY YOU’RE NOT PARTICULAR OF THE SO CALLED “FACE STRUCTURE” OTHERWISE, YOU WILL NOT MAKE THIS HATEFUL COMMENTARY, ON MILEY CYRUS INSTEAD YOU RECOGNIZED SURELY, MILEY CYRUS HAS THAT ”HIGH STRUCTURE FACIAL CHEEKBONE” THAT PERFECT FOR MODELING BESIDES THAT BROODING LOOK.. MILEY CYRUS ACTUALLY HAS THAT CLASSIC MODEL LOOK. YOU CAN ALL DISAGREE JUST TO LOVE TO DISAGREE BUT ALL THE SAME MILEY CYRUS IS NOW MARC JACOB’S FAVORITE MODEL 2014 AND NOBODY CAN’T STOP THAT.”
But whatever your opinion of Miley may be you have to admit that this was a great move by both parties (and one we should have seen coming miles back). Marc Jacobs is a cool dude and is well respected across the entertainment and fashion industries. Miley is a young talent who is at the height of hype at the moment. The creative genius puts the wild pop girl in his ads. The creative genius gets exposed to the widest audience possible; remains relevant. The wild pop girl gets some serious credibility; becomes cool in the eye of those that matter.
Win win.
