Island Getaway, A Work In Progress

Almost a year ago we stumbled across a very humble skyline garage, complete with an out of order Port-a-loo, a couple of outside sheds and a large concrete water tank (dramatic before and after pic at the bottom). She wasn’t the prettiest thing you ever did see but she had a beaut view and with that, a whole lot of potential. Traditionally Waiheke views have meant a sea view, but the island also offers beautiful, almost Tuscan outlooks over rolling vineyards. Often they are incredibly underrated and undervalued on the property market.

The kitchen was somewhere we ‘saved’ . We’ve worked with CabJacks in  the past when building my wardrobe (blog here) but this was a first using their kitchen setup. CabJacks are a Kiwi owned family business with a great product that is incredibly affordable, plus they have a website that allows you to custom design and order. We didn’t need anything too complicated, just simple clean lines and an easy to use space.

I didn’t want to cramp up the bench space so we put in a two hob gas burner, but we also plan on putting in a great BBQ area outside. So happy with the result

We had both ‘Spend’ and ‘Save’ moments in the bathroom. We saved on the simple subway wall tiles from Tile Depot but spent on the 19th century french feature floor tile and gold hardware. Hello heart eyed emoji!  We also saved on the really simple Butlers sink and then hunted second hand stores for the perfect vanity / side table to fit the space.

With the bathroom being on the small side, I wanted to give it some flair and make it feel a bit special.
