You might not have realized this so I will do the kind thing and let you know: Nike is kind of having a moment. By moment I mean a monumental this-shit-is-cooler-than-Balenciaga moment. And by that I mean you really need to get your hot self into some Nike.
It came unexpectedly, this moment of Nike’s. One day we were all strolling around in our work appropriate high heels/ballet flats and the next everyone turned up in sneans, tick adorned of course. Suddenly one couldn’t read Vogue, glance at Tumblr or click onto Style.com without seeing the aforementioned tick. It’s like everyone who is anyone woke up that day and said, “you know what should be de rigueur? Running shoes with everything.” (They said it like that because they were obviously French.)
It is possible that Nike has always been having a moment; it just took us a while to catch on. Nelly was rocking in his Air Force Ones way back in 2002 and every major basketball/tennis/soccer(?) player has been scoring millions whilst wearing Nike since the dawn of time. It is quite unlike fashion to take so long to appropriate something but boy did we get there in the end. Thank god right?
One of the latest things to come out of the Nike treadmill is this wondrous collaboration with Liberty of London (pictured throughout but only spoken of now because I got a bit carried away with the appropriation thing). Nike has collaborated with Liberty prints before but this ‘Linen’ collection is by far their best.
I love a good fashion disconnect and when that disconnect comes in a tan and navy combination I love it even more.
