The Inconvenient Truth
So we all knew that human beings are pretty awful sometimes, especially when it comes to our relationships, and especially, especially when it comes to sex.
But I didn’t realise we were THIS awful. I, perhaps naively, thought that people wandered unwittingly into affairs. I sort of took comfort in the fact that you know, maybe that boyfriend/girlfriend/husband/wife hadn’t gone out looking to fuck you over, it had just happened. Apparently however that WAS extremely naive because Ashleymadison.com is a website that provides you with the tools to do just that.
“Life is short. Have an affair.” Reads the banner of the Ashley Madison homepage; at the bottom of the screen, “The most recognized name in infidelity. As seen on Dr. Phil, Tyra, CNN, The View, Ellen, Larry King, Good Morning America. We are the most recognized and reputable extramarital affair company. Our married dating services work. We are the most successful website for finding cheating partners.” I honestly can’t quite believe what I am looking at.
This website not only ratifies cheating, it helps you do it. Within a matter of minutes you can create your own ‘discreet’ profile. All you have to do is pick a user name and select “Attached woman seeking male” or vice versa from a drop down list and you’re on your way to find your perfect lying scumbag. There is actually an option of choosing “Single female seeking male” but I would say only about 10% of users actually pick that. Literally every guy that has come up in the Auckland area (yup it gets local) has been ‘attached’ and has a sleazy greeting like “orgasmic messages guaranteed” or “I’m good with my hands.”
It’s all pretty sole destroying stuff really.
