The Met Gala Red Carpet Round Up: Part One

written by lucyfreyakorn May 8, 2013

The Met Ball Goes (sort of) Punk

This year the Met Ball celebrated all things punkalicious with it’s exhibit, Punk: Chaos to Couture. So naturally we assumed the invite stated that the dress code be, well, punk. Unfortunately 80% of the attendees seemed to have actively ignored this little piece of information. Instead most of them dressed like they would dress for any old red carpet event then chucked on some extra black eyeliner for good measure.

It is also worth mentioning how horribly awkward E! Channels live steam was. Seriously the interviews were so awkward we cringed the entire way through them. Hilary Rhoda is a total babe but she ain’t no Seacrest.

Anyway….

It’s time for some smashin’ fashion.

First up, the black dresses:

Michelle Williams: Mega sigh. I feel like she just pulled out one of her past Globes gowns, dyed it black and hacked off the front. Also she totally could have done something awesome with that hair! I never thought I would say this but she should have taken a page out of Miley’s book. There is nothing punk about a sleek bob and a little girls alice band.

.

Taylor Swift: This dress is great, it fits her wonderfully and it is, what I would call punk couture.

What is not great is her head. Who is her make up person and why did they insist on making her head look like it just emerged from an episode of Jersey Shore? Do me a favor and take your thumb and stick it over her head. So much better right?

.

Emma Watson: Knocks. It. Out. Of. The. Park.

Jessica Hart: Once I get over the fact that she looks as if she is carrying a large lollipop I rather like this. It’s punk-ish right? I sort of wish that the skirt part was pulled up to cover her belly button but then again, maybe belly buttons are considered punk? Either way she looks insanely good in the way that only Victoria’s Secret models can.

.

Miranda Kerr: Is Miranda Kerr.

.

Jennifer Lawrence: This is kind of a fail on Jennifers part. I get that she is the face of Dior and always wears Dior and has Dior coming out of her armpits but did she really have to look exactly like she just walked off her Dior campaign shoot? But really who cares about what she wore? Actions speak louder than garments:

I love this girl.

Cara Delevingne: This girl gets it. All punk everywhere.

.

Dakota Fanning: The first thing I thought when I saw Dakota was, hell she grew up fast! What happened to that little girl from The Secret Life of Bees? The second thing I thought was that she kind of hit the nail on the head with the whole punk thing. I especially like the non-dirty dirty hair thing.

.

Anne Hathaway: OH MY GOD SHE IS BLONDE. She is blonde and she is wearing 1992 Valentino. She is blonde, she is wearing 1992 Valentino and I might actually like her for it.

Allison Williams: I love Marnie but there is only one thing I see when I look at this dress:

Ursula

Alexa Chung: This is sort of Edwardian punk. Or maybe Edwardian punk undergarments. On the whole I think she rocks it but I am a little disappointed seeing as she is practically from the birth place of punk.

.

Chloe Sevigny: I recently watched an episode of The Mindy Project (great show, watch it) in which Chloe made an appearance. It was weirdly surreal because, to me, she has always been this mysterious cray fashion person. You know, the kind of person who would wear a turban to the Met Ball. Shoes are AMAZING though.
