Surviving V-Day: Things to do if you’re single

written by Amber February 14, 2013

Valentine’s Day is the one holiday of the year when your sweetie proves his love by buying a lavish amount of sparkly gifts, roses, and treats. Well, we don’t need someone to buy us…OK, let’s rewind. We admit to kind of loving the attention (and the sparkly gifts).

But on the other hand, those of us who are boyfriend-less sometimes love to hate on the holiday and are often found overdosed on chocolates with a pile of wrinkled up tissues next to them. Aside from indulging in chocolaty goodness, it’s not fun throwing a pity party for yourself. So, for all of the single ladies out there, whether you’re up in the club, just broke up, or doing your own little thing (thanks, Beyonce), you too can embrace all of the lovey-dovey-ness, and we’re going to say it…maybe even have fun! And here’s how to do it:

Throw an Anti-Valentine’s Day Party

We don’t mean to be cynical or anything, but after watching Kara Monahan throw an anti-V-Day dinner party in the movie Valentine’s Day, we kind of thought it was a brilliant idea. Invite any of your single friends over. To get all of your sadness and frustration out, make sure to serve fondue; you get to skewer all of the fixins! Dark decorations, wilted roses, and decorating broken heart cookies are a must. A cheesy photo-booth station fully equipped with props will make the night that much more memorable. Make sure you have a little booze to make the evening more comical than sad. Oh yeah, and I Will Survive has to be sung in unison at least once.

Girls’ Night Out

What girl doesn’t love an excuse to get dolled up, especially when you know you’ll be with your friends? Another perk to hitting the dance floor on V-Day is that most likely all of the men there are most likely single! So you probably want to brush up on those dance moves of yours

Do Something You’ve Never Done
Valentine’s Day is a great day to check something off that long bucket list of yours. Get out of the house and enjoy an adventure to get your mind off of the same old stuff that’s dragging you down. There’s nothing like an adrenaline rush to lift your spirits!

Spoil Yourself Since You Don’t Need to Spoil Anyone Else
Instead of thinking of all of the negatives that come with V-Day, look on the bright side: since you’re single you don’t need to buy gifts for anyone but yourself! Splurge on a spa day, a new piece of jewelry, or even some lingerie. Whatever would make you happiest.
