NZFW Log. Day One.
The wind, the rain and the fashion
The shows: Ruby/Liam Cybele Coop Company of Strangers Hailwood Juliette Hogan Zambesi
The weather: Wind Rain Hail – Wind&rain&hail
The Verdict:
LIAM/RUBY
“What a brilliant way to start off the week!” said one fashionista to another after the Ruby/Liam show. We couldn’t have agreed more.
Liam was respectfully chic, with longer hemlines and easy cuts, their ‘everyday’ pieces floated down the runway with an air of regal elegance – their evening pieces however were the standout. Those girls really know how to cut a dress. Subtly (and sometimes not so subtly) sexy and beautifully breezy, these are the kind of dresses that would get the wearer a jaw drop or two.
Next, Ruby stepped up the tempo, and lightened the mood with a collection full of colour, pattern and texture. Ruby is a label that really knows their customer, and they deliver every time. Flirty, fun and maybe just a little bit hipster (beanies) the looks that walked down the runway were looks that I would imagine a young Kate moss would rock – if she were a kiwi. Our personal favourites were the awesome electric blue fur jacket and every single print on print look.
CYBELE
The first things we noticed at Cybele were the legs! Graphite stockinged legs with stunning Chaos and Harmony shoes on their feet (must get our hands on these). Then came the injection of cobalt blue – I think I may have actually gasped when that dress came down the runway. Soooo much love for blue hues everyone.
COOP
Possibly the most exciting show of the day for us. We sat front row (swag) and thus were in full view of the awesomeness that came down that runway. Ok, so it involved allot of sparkles, allot of colour, prints and florals but there was also a bad girl vibe throughout the collection. Can sequins be bad-girl? Hells yea they can! I think I was close to jumping out of my seat when that emerald green dress entered my vision – I must have it. Our other loves (how to choose?) were the gold skirt and jacket ensemble, that eclectic floral coat and the crazy printed pant suit (so vogue right now).
Needless to say this collection makes us look forward to next winter!
JULIETTE HOGAN
Juliette continued her renowned feminine and chic elegance with classic blousey shirts, and cute girly dresses. It was nice to see some statement pantsuits in there. Moreover, the mix of vibrant tangerines amongst Hogan’s signature neutral palette of creams, camels, and beige created a wonderful collection, without straying too far from the brand’s
roots. With a great selection of models from Ngahuia Williams to Grace Owens, the show was a beautiful performance.
ZAMBESI
One of the most anticipated of the day (read: week). Last year was an immaculate show, and this year was no different. Complemented with extreme hair and make up (plum lips, what up), the collection featured great patterns of checks, innovative styling, and amazing coats, especially in the menswear. Highlight of the whole thing? Michael Whittaker and David Kemp crossing paths on the runway. Both of them on the runway at the same time? It surely doesn’t get any better than that.
Stay tuned for more Photos and NZFW entries from Wednesday 5th September!
