NZFW Log: Days 3 & 4
Cowboys, Snakes and Mexico
The Shows: Salasai, Blak, SGC, Huffer
The Weather: SUN and wind and then just wind
The Verdict:
Salasai

If you have read our previous write up of this show you will know how much we adored it. We loved it so much it’s getting a second mention. The nomad cowboy look is very on trend for the moment with Isabelle Marant recently kicking it off with her western inspired collection. Salasai’s interpretation of the trend was stella – it’s safe to say that we would wear basically every single look that walked the runway, especially the leather pieces.
Another thing that made Salasai’s collection one of our favorites was the fact that it differed significantly from their previous NZFW shows. Many of our designers stick to catering to their niche customer – Salasai takes risks and that is to be admired.
Blak

Blak is bringing the turtle neck back for Winter 2013!! A look that reminds us of our primary school days has grown up and edged up for the new season. The look was a permanent fixture though out their collection – our favorite being the above version (very Celine).
We just thought that was well worth a mention.
Stolen Girlfriends Club
Possibly the most anticipated show of the week, SGC pulled of yet another unconventional, darkly cool runway show held in a tricked out garage in the back streets of Grey Lynn. The collection centered around the snake motif with dresses, shirts and bags emblazoned with the image of two intertwined serpents and various item made with snake printed fabrics.
No one does cool quite like the SGC boys, it’s their signature aesthetic – time and time again they prove they really know what they are doing. These clothes will fly off the shelves next winter.
Huffer

Huffer’s NZFW/Store opening show at Mekenzie place in Takapuna was more of a huge party than anything else. Their current spring/summer 2012 collection – El Summer – has a young and cheek Mexican vibe (hence the name). T-shirts printed with burritos and tacos, chambray shirts and dusky colours in varying tones run throughout the collection (which you can shop in store and online now). Our very favorite look from the night was this polka dot denim look. Seriously, I know I am always saying this but I actually NEED this.
The rest of the night was comprised of drinking and dancing and eating mexican. Huffer really knows how to throw a party. The perfect way to end NZFW.
