SPRING 2013 RTW: SASS & BIDE

written by Amber September 19, 2012

The most recent Sass & Bide collection presented on the runway at London Fashion Week had us mouthing “wow” after “wow”. Taking inspiration from a trip to Peru and Buenos Aires, designers Sarah Jane Clarke A.K.A Sass and Heidi Middleton A.K.A Bide established a beautiful range which was, surprisingly, a tone down from their usual signature statement hues and accustomed prints.

For SS13, the collection consists mainly of black and white contrasts accompanied by trending metallics, with a hint of tangerine. However, the ensembles are a far cry from conservative. Think floral corsages, origami-esque folds, refined feathers, vociferous sequins, and one lavish extravaganza – this collection was in the element of, as Middleton puts it, “the traditional modernist”.

Whilst plunging necklines were balanced with long sleeves, and high necklines were complemented with sun-kissed skin and bare legs, the continuous use of sheer silks and tasteful embellishments endorsed the consistency within the range.

Of the collection, Clarke and Middleton explained, “It’s a salute to tradition but also looks to the future”. If their plans to open a flagship store in New York next March is anything to go by, we’re sure the future only holds great things for Sass & Bide.
