So Fetch.
How has 2013’s obsession with the 90s overlooked this beloved, slightly awkward mode of transport? Roller skates were THE thing back when I was in primary school – along with roller blades but we won’t get into that because a) they are ugly and b) I couldn’t do it – but they have since faded from existence. The other day I randomly thought: ‘Hey, a pair of roller skates would be great!’ I have no idea where it came from but suddenly I needed them like I need air.
Naturally I went online to see if I could find some because the internet always delivers right? WRONG. There are none. NONE. I even went to Bike Barn and such to ask if they had any. In most cases the answer was “no we only have roller blades” in one case the guy behind the counter laughed at me. After much digging I finally found some located in NZ (most were US and did not ship to our lonely island) but they were kind of ugly and meant to be used for Roller Derby… Not quite what I was aiming for. THEN I thought I had hit the jackpot when I came across the Moxi Roller Skates for sale on Urban Outfitters which are awesome until you realise they cost $299 US and UO’s shipping fee to NZ is $25 US… No one wants skates that badly, no matter how cool they are.
So I think that we should make roller skates happen again. I’m unsure as to how one would go about doing it but it must be done. I need some roller skates guys, before the summer is out.
