I hate how much I love you
Mere days after denouncing Birkenstocks and their hipster-esq but entirely mainstream vibe to my friends, I fell in love with a Birkenstock.
Bassike
Unfortunately, as I have never liked Birkenstocks, I can’t claim to be one of those long-time fans who has owned a pair forever and is therefore trending by association. In fact I kind of hate themThanks to High School I match Birkenstocks (particularly the brown kind) with sweaty boy feet and sweaty boy feet only so when the started appearing in every lookbook and on every runway I felt a little bit sick on the inside. How does a shoe so popular with teenage boys in the early aughts (horrible word) become so desirable that Givenchy can sell out a $1000 version? Fashion that’s how.
Fashion is also how I found myself becoming one of those people I despise: someone who adopts questionable trends just because everyone is telling them they should.

Blame it on fashion, blame it on the chambray stripe, blame it on the gold trimming, I don’t care, they had me at hello.
Shit.
