The Golden Globes Red Carpet Round-Up: Part Two

The first of the big awards shows has been and gone. The celebrities came, they saw,  they were seen and now they will be judged:

The Red Carpet Reds

Jennifer Garner in Vivianne Westwood Couture

We really wanted to love this dress. The texture is great and resonates well both on camera and in photographs, which is always a plus. The colour looks great on her too and she looked comfortable and confident.

See, technically we should LOVE this but there is something going on that we cannot quite pinpoint… Is it the fit around the bust? Could be? We can’t decide.

Jessica Alba in Christian Dior

ADORE this colour. Remember when Emma Stone wore that amazing coral dress? Obviously Jessica looks great. It’s not humanly possible for her to look bad.

But still, it is all a bit blah. We have seen this one million times before.

The verdict: Pretty yet yawn inducing.

Jennifer Lawrence In Dior Haute Couture (“I have no idea what Haute means but that’s what this is” – Is her answer to Ryan’s “Who are you wearing” question. This is almost as good as when the guy from parks and reck says he is wearing a “Kevin Dior” suit)

YESSSSSSSSSS, now this is how you work the red carpet. Jennifer looks fantastical in this. The colour, the fit, the styling… Everything works. On screen she looked even better. Whoever’s idea it was to add that belt is a genius, who is her stylist?

Side Note: We love her.

Marion Cotilard in Custom Dior

Marion here is wearing a dress “made especially for the occasion by Raf Simons” as she so graciously points out. Again a great colour and we love the simplicity of the styling.

On camera this looks much better, here it seems rather unflattering but when we saw her talking to Ryan she looked beautifully sleek. Actually come to think of it, she looks a bit like she has just come off one of Raff’s runway shows. That hair is exactly like the hair from his recent collection.

Tay Tay in Donna Karen

Now this dress most definitely was not made for photographs. On camera Taylor looked really, really great in this dress (we have to say we are enjoying this departure from everything sequined). However in this photo the dress has managed to make someone who is whippet thin look, well, bigger. Obviously she doesnt look fat by any means, but Taylor Swift is not that womanly. (although even on camera her boobs did look huge)

While we watched the Globes I was doing a running commentary of each look. This is what I wrote when I saw this: “Taytay looks like a sex bomb. Love this dress – IT’S BACKLESS! Has she had a boob job? For serious though? They look huge.”

In fairness I had mere seconds to write each comment so many of the things I wrote didn’t   have a lot thought behind them. For instance when I saw Bradley Cooper all I wrote was “Get in me.” Nice one Lucy. I do however stand behind my boob statement, the question of a Taytay boob job stays.

Naomi Watts in Zac Posen

Once again Naomi has gone for sophisticated and ladylike in this Zac Posen gown. We love how it is all business in the front party in the back  (it’s backless of course). This blood red colour is great on her too. She needs to change up this hair style though, the whole side swept thing has been going on for too long, three consecutive award shows to be precise!

Claire Danes in Versace

Here is what I wrote upon spotting Claire Danes: “Claire Danes is looking STUUUUUNNNNNNING Versace. So good seriously and I don’t even like her.” Thats right I    dislike Clare Danes, don’t ask me why because I don’t know. All I know is that we can all agree that she looked gorgeous that night.

Zooey Deschanel in Oscar de la Renta

Zooey loves her princess moments. Last year she wore that great powder-blue puffball of a dress which, in one priceless moment, got caught on Lucy Lu’s metal creation (the clip of this happening looks just like a scene from New Girl). Again we adore this colour, it is perfect with her dark hair and pale skin. But we can’t get past our hate for that necklace. A bare neck and a pair of great earrings would have been a much better choice.
