The Golden Globes Red Carpet Round-Up

The first of the big awards shows has been and gone. The celebrities came, they saw,  they were seen and now they will be judged:

Basic (and not so basic) Black

Giuliana Rancic

We audibly gasped when Gillianna first came into view. She looks terrifying.

For someone who is constantly on camera at these events, Gullianna doesn’t get it right very often.

Eva Longoria

At least Eva didn’t resemble any part of the female anatomy tonight. But that is really all we can say. Definitely not terrible but she has looked FAR better.

Colour is you friend Eva. Stick with it.

Kate Hudson

We can’t decide if we really love this dress or just the fact that Kate looks amazing in it. (Although if the girl looks good in it, I guess that makes it a great dress doesn’t it?) We just wish that the neck detail wasn’t so… Neck-y, like if it had been more of a neck cuff rather than a chocker? She does look sensational though. There was this great bit during the ceremony where Kate came out to present an award and the camera’s quickly switched Lea Michelle grabbing the women next to her and saying “Oh My God!” The camera’s were only on her for a second but I think it is fair to say that “she looks amazing” were the words that followed.

Sarah Hyland

We died when we saw this. Sarah looks like a high-class porn star, with the boobs and the hair and the eyelashes and the boobs and the satin and the boobs.

Kristen Wiig

Kristen Wiig is wearing the sister of one of THE dresses that I wanted to see on the Red Carpet this season. She looks nice but this picture makes her look like she never learnt how to pose, shoulders back girl! Also a messy up do would have gone down a treat.

(I wish she had worn the sister dress – just for my own selfish reasons).

Katherine McPhee

Katherine McPhee is in Theysken’s Theory, which perplexes us because out of all the celebrities we wouldn’t think Katherine would be the kind of girl who would even know who Theyskens was, let alone choose to wear one of his creations. However as she told Ryan, she likes to go on Style.com to check out the newest collections, so there you go, people can still surprise you. On TV she looked pretty smoking but unfortunately this didn’t resonate on camera. We also just noticed her shoes. Those things are horrendous.

Rachel Weisz

Oh honey no. Polka dots, bows, weird sheer areas…this is a train wreck. What happened to the Rachel Weiss who could where a Balmain mini like a boss? Oh wait that was Jennifer Connelly. Sorry Rach.

Deborah Messing

We are not fans of this dress. It could just be the angle but judging by this photo it is VERY unflattering. So unflattering that we are thinking that she is no longer being styled by Rachel Zoe. Surely the queen of styling would never let a client out in anything less than perfect. Remember when Deborah wore THIS? Now that is what we call a red carpet win. (A Rachel Zoe job)

Nicole Kidman

Nicole Kidman’s expression is rather crazed, as is her dress. But as cray as it is we kind of like it. The embellishment around the neck is great but we can’t decide on the bodice? Good or crass?

All and all she doesn’t look as waxlike as usual which is a plus, the hair is especially great, we love a good messy bob.

Amy Poehler

We are huge fans of a woman in a tux over here at thedownlow and Stella McCartney cuts a great one. When we first saw her on the red carpet we thought she looked a bit too business-y but judging by this photo she actually looks rather fierce. The styling is also great although if her necklace had been about two inches longer it would have been perfection.

Julianna Moore

Tom Ford made this especially for Julianna. This makes us happy because if anyone deserves a custom Tom Ford Julianna does.  She may look the best she has ever looked actually. Great jewels too.

Next up, COLOUR!
