1885 Presents ‘Food & People’

written by Amber October 3, 2012

Over the course of 11 weeks, 1885 Britomart will be hosting a novel series of events, ‘Food & People‘. Launching on October 11, 2012, Food & People will be hosted weekly by various Kiwis that make up New Zealand’s design, fashion, food, music, media, and business industries, who will [excuse the pun] share their appetite, with the public, on the ultimate social connector that is food.

Of the Food & People event series, 23 year old creators Tim Lambourne and Connor Nestor maintain, “We wanted to take over 1885 and do something completely different with it; make it casual, where people can feel comfortable, enjoy some really delicious food, catch up with their friends, and make some new ones.”

The premiere event taking place next Thursday evening will be hosted by designer dream team Karen Walker and Mikhail Gherman, in association with The New Zealand Herald’s Viva. Following this, over the next 11 weeks, Food & People will be hosted by the likes of Steve Dunstan, Nick Dwyer, Juliette Hogan, Charlotte Ryan, plus, many more eminent Kiwis, who will each transform Britomart’s 1885 into their private dining room for the evening. In partnership with the chefs from our favorite locals, Mexico, District Dining, and Agent & Merchants, an insouciant grill-esque menu will be fashioned, with exclusive beverages to complement, which will be served to guests subsequent to a relaxed presentation.

To set the mood, there will be a personalized soundtrack at each event. Moreover, series sponsor, Kim Crawford will be serving appetizing wine cocktails and tasty wine-infused ice-pops, which will surely be an all-round winner. Admission into Food & People at 1885 Britomart will be free of charge, centered on a first-in, first-served basis.

We all enjoy a good D&M over a luxury meal, and let’s be honest, they had us at ‘food’. Food, fashion, flavorsome musicians, and fabulous folk, it is expected that this will be the next big thing for Auckland. For more on Food & People, check out their website.
