Spring 2013 RTW Balenciaga was presented, basically, by a mob of bare, lengthy pins. “It’s the most sensual collection I’ve ever done,” explained creative director Nicolas Ghesquière, prior to the show, and whilst some of Ghesquière’s moves continue to perplex us (Kristen Stewart, really?), his clothing does not. Especially not this collection.
Beautiful movements were seen in the contemporary ensembles as they traversed the runway; a real test in the structure and craftsmanship of each piece. The whole thing basically spelled out sex on legs, in the classiest way possible: “corporate” pantsuits teamed with midriff-exposing molded bras (imagine the heads you’d turn if you showed up to the office in that), fitted micro-minis, and sexy asymmetrically-constructed ruffled hip-revealing skirts like we’ve ever seen before from Ghesquière, although the coats and the beige jacket held a similar construction to that of the boxy jackets in his Spring 2012 RTW collection (which, a season later, we are still very much in love with).
Utilizing an assortment of lengths, textures, prints, and silhouettes, Ghesquière has truly outdone himself, and this collection is definitely one of the best we’ve seen from the Spring 2013 RTW collections. With a collection this good, we’d certainly be grinning from ear to ear too.
